39 minutes
Download MP3 audioAfter the fall of the Alamo and the massacre at Goliad, Texans fled east to stay one step ahead of Santa Anna’s pursuit. The Runaway Scrape, as it came to be known, would have a lasting legacy in the history of the Lone Star State, and would lead to one of the most stunning reversals of fortune in all of history, the Battle of San Jacinto, where Texans turned and faced Santa Anna and won their independence.

This is a great page with many links to articles about the Texas Revolution. Probably the most fascinating part of this site that it lists every single camp-site along the route that Houston’s army took during the Runaway Scrape/San Jacinto campaign.

The sons of DeWitt Colony website is an invaluable site full of information about many of the key players during the Texas Revolution. It contains first hand accounts of the Runaway Scrape and the Battle of San Jacinto. Can’t recommend it enough!
