25 minutes
Download MP3 audioYou could make the case that written Texas history began with a man named Cabeza de Vaca, who made history as much as he wrote it down. Don’t take our word for it. Read the words of the man himself. Here is Cabeza de Vaca’s journal, translated and presented online for you to follow along.
Another great page from the Texas Beyond History site hosted by the University of Texas. This takes a comprehensive look at the Texas that Cabeza and his compatriots would have seen and the journey they took across the continent.
A good summary of Cabeza de Vaca’s journey from Florida to Mexico. Great information about the first part of his adventure.
