Larger than the state of Rhode Island, Big Bend is a diverse and fascinating combination of striking geological formations, rich diversity in plants and wildlife, amazing discoveries from the fossil record, and the darkest skies in all of Texas. The Quetzalcoatlus is the largest flying creature in history, a massive pterosaur bigger than an F-15 figher jet. Its fossile was first found in the 1970s in Big Bend National Park, one of many amazing paleontological finds in Big Bend.
